Eligibility Requirement1. Passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the subjects- Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology. 2. Obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidate belonging to reserved category SC and ST) in the above subjects taken together. 3. A rank in the merit list of JEE (Mains) OR the Combined Entrance Examination (CEE) of Assam.
Mode of Selection1. Through merit in CEE, Assam with reservations for different categories as per Government Norms. 2. Through merit in JEE (Mains).A limited number (10%) through merit in qualifying examination and JEE (Mains) /CEE and interview.
Lateral Entry AdmissionCandidates who have passed the final Diploma examination in a branch of study (as per AICTE guidelines) from a Board/University approved institution, securing a minimum of 45% marks (40% incase of candidates belonging to reserved category) in aggregate will be eligible for admission into the Third Semester of B.Tech. course. The vacant seats, if any, will be filled through merit in Diploma Examination, as may be decided by the institution.

About the CourseMechanical Engineering is an engineering discipline that applies the principles of physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools. Mechanical engineering, the broadest of all engineering disciplines deals with design and production of tools, machines and all other mechanical equipment to be used in industries. The industry offers a wide choice of options extending across many interdisciplinary interdependent specialties. Mechanical engineering is concerned with all types of machinery in industries and all aspects of their mechanism and functioning; the design, development, construction, production, installation, operation and maintenance; such as large steam and gas turbines, components of thermal power stations, internal combustion engines, jet engines, machine tools, air conditioning and heating machines, refrigerators etc to name a few. They not only design and create new products, but also develop materials for them and ways of making them. In a way, mechanical engineers are involved in creating the future. They are the driving force behind many of our technologies and industrial processes including innovative products like mobiles, PCs and DVD etc in our modern world. The work of a Mechanical Engineer can be extremely challenging and fulfilling, requiring IT, design and analytical skills together with an ability to work as a team. As their work involves production, transmission and use of mechanical power and heat, they have to analyze the different materials used for the machines and their tolerances, investigate the different energy sources and the power they generate and the design problems if any. When designing and making a commercial product they have to take into account all the business and marketing aspects to make sure that the product is affordable. They work as part of a team with other engineers as well as financial, business and management professionals on a project together. Mechanical Engineers are also responsible for maintenance and repair of the devices. Care has to be taken that the plants give maximum output and the machinery is properly maintained. The field requires a solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, and structural analysis. Mechanical engineers use these core principles along with tools like computer-aided engineering and product lifecycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, motor vehicles, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices and more. Mechanical engineering emerged as a field during the industrial revolution in Europe in the 19th century; however, its development can be traced back several thousand years around the world. The field has continually evolved to incorporate advancements in technology, and mechanical engineers today are pursuing developments in such fields as composites, mechatronics, and nanotechnology. This classic engineering stream is nevertheless a popular choice for the discerning student.
